“She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household is clothed with Scarlet. She makes coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple” (vs20-22). The gospel woman fears God and nothing else. Like Rahab, she’s let down the scarlet rope and knows her redemption (Josh 2). Even in danger when bills are screaming for payment, she knows that God is for her, and her house is cared for faithfully (1 Cor 7:14). Do not think that the submissive wife is a weakling. She has the courage of FAITH, and her Lord removes her fears. She’s not alone in this world, and she has the boldness of obedience. Christ, she knows, is the safest place that we can be. No one should be terrified if God is your trust, and the church knows this as does the believing wife. She frets for nothing because she’s thankful in prayer (Phil 4:6). Trouble rises, but Christ, like the ark in Noah’s day, rises higher and conquers it (Gen 8:17-24). Believers know that God will do right only. Secondly, this godly wife is not cruel and self-righteous person. She doesn’t condemn and live pointing the finger at others. We read, “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness” (Prov 31:26). Even in reproof, she is kind. She understands grace, so she speaks respectfully to her husband and disciplines her children lovingly. She isn’t proud. She ministers in gentleness and humility, preaching God’s love in word and deed. She is a blessing to her husband because she doesn’t condemn, even when he is wrong and sinful (1 Pet 3:1-6). She has peace within, and everyone around her benefits! Before, like the woman who leaked blood, she ruined everything she touched. Now, she loves from a heart that’s been forgiven and given FULL acceptance with God by Jesus only (1 Pet 1:18-21). EVERY godly woman is like this. She is not only right, but she’s kind in how she says it Finally, this blessed woman is praiseworthy, and you husbands are right to express it (vs27-31). We read, “She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.’ Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates”. She is God’s gift, and her husband is helped and happy! How sweet it is to have a godly woman caring for you, to have someone God’s saved and given to you in love. We value beauty, but it is empty and fleeting. We love charm and personality, but it deceives without holiness character running through it. But, the one thing that every woman can have is godliness, and this is the most precious beauty, greater than anything possessed by the ungodly. Judge wisely. Pick a woman with purity of heart, and she will do you good. Then, praise and lavish her with attention and appreciation. Say, “Thank you, God” in your wife’s presence and commend her attributes continually. Christ does this for the church. Even though we are sinful, we are clean, and He praises our obedience. He says, “You are all fair, my love, and there is no spot in you”, and, “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely” (Song of Solomon 4:7; 2:14). Grace loves to commend others, and you’re right to praise your wife consistently. She does you good, so let her know that you are pleased. Christ exemplifies this love to husband, and the church illustrates surrender to the wives. Let godliness be the wife’s ambition, and let her well-treated husband proclaim how sweet she is. |
