Reformers Unanimous is a ministry of North Love Baptist Church with its headquarters located in Rockford, Illinois. It is the world’s fastest-growing, faith-based addictions program. To best understand what the ministry of Reformer Unanimous is all about, let us first take a look at the life of its Founder and President, Steven Curington.
Steve Curington grew up in a wonderful Christian home and attended a strong Christian school. Upon graduation, Steve walked away from church and quickly fell into cocaine and alcohol addiction. After serving the world for nearly a decade, Steve was involved in a drunken driving accident that nearly cost him his life. As he lay in a ditch, drowning in his own blood, the lone occupant of a housing development, which was currently under construction, made a life-saving 911 call. Remarkably, this miraculous caller turned out to be the mother of the woman Steve would eventually marry after he got his heart right with God!
While in the hospital recovering from his injuries, a former Sunday School teacher from the church where Steve attended through his childhood, visited him and exhorted him to come back to church. Knowing that a change was desperately needed, Steve heeded his advice and returned to his local church. During the next few years, under the intense guidance of his pastor, Steve witnessed an astonishing recovery from his addictive and worldly behaviors.
Knowing that the Lord had truly performed a miracle in his life, Steve began to council other addicts using the same steps he used to overcome his own addiction during the intense discipleship from his pastor. In a small Bible-study format, Steve immediately experienced success in leading others to freedom over addiction. By this time, Steve had risen to a lucrative career in the petroleum industry. Eventually, however, Steve was led by the Spirit and his God-ordained authority to leave his career and go full-time into the ministry. As a result, Steve founded the faith-based addiction program, Reformers Unanimous.
What had started as a humble, Friday night Bible study with 4 regular attendees quickly exploded into meetings with more than 300 people from throughout the community. As word spread, other churches began to inquire about this ministry at North Love Baptist Church. The National Ministry of RU was quickly launched, and shortly after that, the International Ministry was born. Today, there are more than 680 outreach chapters throughout the nation and eleven foreign countries.
In these chapters, the curriculum developed by Steve Curington and the Reformers Unanimous Staff is used (through multiple translations) to great effect. Reformers Unanimous boasts an 82% success rate among the graduates of its discipleship course. The program has proven to be so effective for one very important reason—it takes people from lives of addiction and places them into God’s intended support group, the local church. Here the addict becomes firmly fixed in the ways of a healthy and godly lifestyle and forsakes his former ways for the abundant Christian life that proves to be so much more rewarding. This method is as close to infallible as possible because it is 100% Bible-based. It follows the doctrine that Jesus Christ is the only “Way, Truth, and Life.”
In addition to the National and International Ministries, Reformers Unanimous also owns, and operates separate Schools of Discipleship for hurting men and women who have become non-functioning addicts. By following the same Reformers Unanimous principles, the Schools of Discipleship have restored hundreds of broken lives and have been the epicenter of countless miracles. Hundreds upon hundreds of people have been transformed through these schools and gone on to enjoy productive lives and do incredible things for Christ.
Other ministries of Reformers Unanimous include: Found-N-Unbound, a national radio series hosted by Steve Curington and RU Medical Advisor, Dr. George T. Crabb, D.O.; RU-N-Touch, an International mini-magazine; Kidz Club, an interactive discipleship program for children; Teens-N-Transition (TNT), a program designed to help teens through the difficult transition from teen to adult; and the Reformers Institutional Program (RIP), designed to minister to those who are incarcerated.
Through these many ministries, hundreds of thousands of people have been helped and brought closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. In just 12 years of operation, God has grown the ministry of Reformers Unanimous to a position of remarkable influence throughout the world. All glory rightly belongs to Him!
