It would appear that there is a whole generation of young men and women that are growing up today without a knowledge to the voice of The Lord. In ancient Israel Moses had set up the Judges and was given the 10 commandments, then some years down the road along came Samuel's sons who walked not in his ways. They had taken bribes and were very wicked men and therefore the people desired a King and wanted to be like other nations. By the time King David came on the scene the spirit of the Lord had departed from King Saul. The people got exactly what they asked for but God still had a remnant, a man after God's own heart in the young shepheard boy David. If the current generation is spiritually lethargic and does not desire to seek the voice of the Lord, we must look to the previous generation to see where we went wrong. Somewhere along the line in our nation we stopped heading the voice of the Living God and thought we would do things our way. We traded in the sensitivity to the voice of God for pizza, pepsi and video games. Over the last few generations, we have stopped giving our kids the substance that is the word of God for entertainment. All for what? For a big crowd, a big bank account, for fun? AW Tozer said this:
If the Holy Spirit cannot move something within their beings every day, they are not going to be effective Christians—if they are Christians at all!
“The church is losing its young people because the parents never taught their children that it was important. I think that applies across the board. It applies to family worship, and it also applies to whether you are in church every Sunday and what priority you demonstrate to your children church has on a Sunday. If the sun shines out and their friends are going to the beach, do you decide to skip church and go to the beach? In which case, you send signals to your children that it is not important.” (Carl Trueman)
As a parent, I must look at my priorities. We make choices for our families every single day and as we make those choices we show our children what it is truly important. While it is crucial we not only worship God and show our children how to worship the Lord in the home, it is just as vital to their spiritual health, and ours, that we "forsake not the assembling of ourselves together."
Heb_10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
The choices that we make will reveal to us what is in our hearts. Television, sports, hobbies, extracurricular activities seem to be elevated to a level of idolatry today by worshipping these things we tell our children that Christ takes second place by putting these things first. We have developed the mentality that its ok to skip Church every once and awhile but all it takes is just missing one service and before you know iit youve missed 6 months. Just ask David what happened when he decided that he was going to stay home from the battle? That decision altered the course of the rest of his life. Skipping church is a clear WAY to falling AWAY! Evaluate your heart. What holds prioroty in your life. May we all grow together in Christ. The church is supposed to be one body of people, it needs all of its parts to function properly. If many of the parts of the body are not present on Sunday morning, how can the body ever be truly effective?
As we enter into a new year we face the same enemy with the same goal, our absolute destruction. The devil often times does not want to take us out right away because he desires us to suffer as much as possible. I found out that the more I have...[ abbreviated | read entire ]
