"Dr J Graham Miller was called home to glory at about 12:30 today (Friday 5th September 2008), at age 95.
Among many other ministries, Dr Miller was parish minister in New Zealand, and a significant leader in the Westminister Fellowship.
He was Principal of the Teachers Training Institute in Vanuatu, and I believe, first moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu.
In Australia he was the Principal of the Melbourne Bible Institute, and parish minister of St Giles Hurstville NSW.
He wrote many books, including the 7 books on the history of mission in Vanuatu, LIVE.
Laurel and had the opportunity of visiting him in the Wangaratta hospital on Thursday, and again yesterday morning. On both occasions he showed such pleasure in seeing us, and as was very usual for him, he wanted to know all about the things that were happening in the church he loved and in which he served.
Yesterday morning, we read Psalm 62, "My soul finds rest in God alone. He is my rock and refuge." We prayed, and were thinking of leaving. He asked, "Where is your next appointment?" "Ballarat!" "Well, I mustn't hold you up." As we left, he raised his right arm high above the bed, "God be with you." And there he held it . . sort of like a final benediction. I went back to the bed, held his hand, laughted with him, and we were off.
Daughters Sylvia and Beatrice have just rung to say that "Dad has just died." How we praise God for Dr JG Miller, Church and missionary statesman, teacher and mentor for many of us.
Thank you gracious Father, for the "great and precious promises."
Laurel and I are presently with members of the Ballarat Presbytery for a day seminar, and will be with local folk all day tomorrow at Ballarat South, Ballarat West and Ballarat North.
