Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:17)
I recently asked our church family here in Hawaii, "Whose church is it?" (The Lord's.) "Whose volcano is it?" (The Lord's.) As we continue seeking the Lord's direction for our ministry and the church, there are some things that humanly we do not understand. That is why God tells us to not lean unto our own understanding. On the other hand, there are things about His will He wants us to understand. We do know that God has been confirming His will for us in returning to the mainland. One way He has been doing this is through friends and church family who have lived here for decades commenting that this is the worse they have ever seen the volcano. We can honestly before God leave Hawaii knowing that we gave every possible effort to continue serving the Lord here on the Big Island. We have finished this part of our course.
As I prepare our church family for our transition back to the mainland, I have been reminding them of some Biblical priorities. A few months ago the Lord led me to preach through Paul's epistles to the Thessalonians. It has been amazing how the historical context in which Paul recorded those letters under the inspiration of the Spirit applies to our situation. He had to leave earlier than he had planned to because of persecution. We are having to leave sooner than we had anticipated because of the suffering my wife has experienced in her health. We are trusting that the church here will continue to be faithful as the church in Thessalonica was.
Please pray for the church as important decisions are made. Our pulpit committee has been prayerfully considering resumes. Our song leader, Harry McIntosh, has agreed to lead the church through the interim period after our departure. One-way tickets back to the mainland have been purchased for August 29.
As we look to the future for our personal ministry, we are prayerfully considering some possibilities. Lord willing, we will have more details next month!
Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial support. Please pray as we finalize details for our transition and for Rhonda's continued healing. Pray as she visits her doctor to determine if surgery will be necessary to correct some health issues.
