How Greed Makes you Poor

BLOG ON: SERMON How Greed Makes You Poor
GraceUnlimited
Dr. Joshua Mack
Satan would love to keep Christians greedy. Greed is a close companion to the hypocrisy Luke describes in the first twelve verses of this chapter. Satan would love to have Christians more taken with possessions and with themselves than with the Bible and the Beautiful Christ, because then they are cold and useless to Jesus. Jesus illustrates this point in the case of the brother who wouldn't share the inheritance with his sibling. Although Jesus is completely qualified to arbitrate, he shows the astounding impudence of the objection. God incarnate is teaching earnestly about heaven and hell, and a man raises a selfish and greedy objection. Can't the man see this is God preaching and that he is disregarding God's words? Can't he see the arrogance of prescribing a course of action for Jesus? Can't he see that he has missed everything Jesus has said? Furthermore, we should ask the question, what has made him miss all of this? Personal possessions! His blindness is so abrasive that Jesus warns him by using him as an object lesson. The inheritance is far less valuable than him understanding this message. In a bizarre way, this very sin has become the most desired and respectable of sins. This is a love affair with the twins of hypocrisy and greed. To love money is to show that God has given you up to your sin. Not only that, but to love money and blunt your spiritual point is foolish. Jesus' response to this man only comes across as harsh if you have bought into this lie. The author of life declares that life does not consist in possessions. God owns all things and always speaks the truth--He is most qualified to make this declaration.

The Curse of Fake Knowledge
THURSDAY, MAY 11, 2017
Posted by: GraceUnlimited | more..
Do you really know what you think you know? Fake knowledge is a dreadful deception in a religious society. False teaching doesn't have the power to deal with what's going on in your heart. It makes you feel better than you are, holier than you...

False teachers are not only teaching what is wrong, but they are also destroying the souls of those whom they teach. So with the unspeakable privilege we have, of access to God's Word, let us be serious about the danger of false teaching....

Jesus Rose; So Will I
TUESDAY, APRIL 18, 2017

The first mouthful of food from the new crop is not the whole crop, it is merely the first taste of the whole year's provision. So Jesus is the forerunner of the vast victory Christians have in Him! Failure is the consistent pattern of human...

Some Dead Ends are Wide Open Gospel Opportunities!
TUESDAY, MARCH 28, 2017

How refreshing that Paul considered it a privileged position to be in prison for Christ. This is true because he saw the Gospel being spread through his chains. He didn't want the Philippians to feel sorry for him. What appeared in Paul's case, in...

Prayer Begs for Help
MONDAY, MARCH 20, 2017
Posted by: GraceUnlimited | more..
If I put two things in front of you; sin and hell. Of which are you more afraid? Sin prevents us from seeing the ugliness and wrongness of our sin. Men and womaen hate the good and holy god. Sin is an attitude that wants to defy God and spit in...

Prayer Requires Humility
THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 2017
Posted by: GraceUnlimited | more..
Prayer is supposed to be something beautiful. But it often doesn't seem that way, does it? It often doesn't seem to bring us closer to God. Can it be that we have been approaching god in the wrong way? He intends prayer as a gracious gift, yet we...

Unwinding Tight Christians
MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 2017
Posted by: GraceUnlimited | more..
There are many ways to mess up your life. Doing the wrong things the right way, or doing the right things the wrong way. It is easy to start thinking in the wrong ways in ministry. That's what happened to the disciples in Luke 10:20. Also to the...

Compassion that Exposes Need
MONDAY, JANUARY 23, 2017

The good Samaritan is possibly the most misunderstood parable in the Bible. It is a parable Jesus told in response to a question posed by a proud teacher of the law. He, like any self-righteous person, finds it hard to see what God has done...

The Christian's Purpose, Future, and Relationship with God
MONDAY, DECEMBER 05, 2016

Imagine thinking you are going to a birthday party, but you end up at your own execution. What a shock! This is similar to the disciples' discovery in Luke ten. Expecting a majestic kingdom they are told they need to die. What drives Christians...
