The Life Politic
MONDAY, JUNE 01, 2009
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
It has been some time since I updated this blog. Much has happened. (For more comments from me you can go to my other blog at www.CoffeewithCurt.blogspot.com). We have a new president with a new agenda. Our nation (as of today) owns the majority of General Motors. We have, in effect, nationalized many industries.

Many Christians are extremely wary of the changes that are taking place. Some are fearing great persecution for the church. We do already see proposed chages in tax laws that affect churches. SanDiego county is cracking down on home Bible studies.

What are we to do? Pray! Then pray again! God is sovereign. He is not unaware of Barack Obama or any other leader (in the world). Romans 13:1 teaches us that governments are ordained by God. We are to be obedient until or unless laws are passed which are contrary to God's Law.

Get involved in the process, at your church, in the political arena, in your family. Read the Bible more faithfully. Trust in God. He hasn't failed us yet, and He's not about to start now.

In Christ,

Pastor Curt

Politics
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 02, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
The political season, which seems to be eternal, is closing in on the end of a chapter. In a little more than a month, Americans will go to the polls and decide who will be the leader of the free world for the next four years. Yes, that may sound...

VBS
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 06, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
As I sit in my office, Vacation Bible School is going on in our church building. The kids are singing songs about the Bible right now. Many folk know that I am not a fan of "programs" in the church just for the sake of having programs. This one,...

Seasons
THURSDAY, JULY 31, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
We all, of course, get the same 24 hours each day and the same number of days each week. None of them are actually longer or shorter than any other. But, I do wonder where summer has been - or gone.Next week we have Vacation Bible School, a...

Me! Me! Me!
MONDAY, JULY 14, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
I feel confident that I am not the first person you have heard (or seen) mention the fact that we live in a "me-centered" world. No matter where we go we run into instances of the "me first syndrome," and the "it's all about me," worldview." This...

Brief Interlude
SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
I apologize for our absence here in the past couple of weeks. It has been two weeks since we last posted a sermon. The first week I was away and we had a guest preacher who was not taped. Then we had a technical glitch of some sort. We should be...

Playing at Church
THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
When we were kids, some of us played "house," or "cowboys and indians," or other make believe games. Play is fine. Fun is fine. But playing at worship is not something that pleases God. Today there are so many "worship" options. Do you want the...

Permeating our lives
TUESDAY, MAY 27, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
A quotation was recently circulated on one of the email boards I read regularly. It is a statement by a well-known religious figure of the day. It reads thusly:"Any tendency to treat religion as a private matter must be resisted, Only when their...

A Community of Saints
MONDAY, MAY 19, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
The church is a covenant community which is made up of God's hand-picked saints. God promises throughout His Word that He will be our God and we will be His people (see Genesis 17:1-8; Deuteronomy 29:12-15 for a couple of examples). We are a...

Don't Be Mislead
MONDAY, MAY 12, 2008
Posted by: Covenant Baptist Church | more..
Sometimes it seems as though being a Christian is like being in the middle of a large, forceful river. We need to get to shore, but the current is pulling us along. As we are swept downstream, we may be pulled into rocks and downed tree limbs....
