ABOUT THE BOOK and THE MUSIC

How does one begin to tell children the Gospel of God's Sovereign Grace in The Person and Work of The LORD Jesus Christ? The only answer has to be, TELL THE TRUTH!

What foolishness to say, Oh no! Children can't understand that! That's too deep, or that doesn't make any sense to little ones!

Wrong! Wherever you find this sentiment, you find many false ideas about the nature of God, the nature of His Salvation and what it means to be a child of The Living God. Adults conceal the truth of the Gospel from children because they don't know the Gospel themselves and are strangers to God.

As a piano teacher, I am in many different homes and I see many strange things. The most heinous cruelty I know of is the teaching that children are pure and without sin...until a certain age. The "age of accountability" heresy is what caused Andrea Yates to drown her children in the bathtub! She admitted that she was worried they wouldn't go to heaven if they got too much older. The press concealed it, of course, because this same falsehood fuels the flames of the abortion industry. All those children are in heaven now, right? May God have mercy on us all!

How about this one? "We're New Testament believers," as if somehow the Old Testament is some outdated book of rules and regulations that has became obsolete and unimportant when "Jesus came." Here, you will find will-worshippers that put the Amish to shame!

No, children must know that they are sinners AND they must know that there is a Great God and A Great Saviour named Jesus Christ, Who willingly became sin for His people, that His people might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

They must know that God is One God and God reveals Himself as 3 Persons. They must know why God tells us He is 3 Persons and they must know what each Person of The Godhead did, does and will do.

Children must know, as adults must know, too, that we honour, love, serve, worship and obey God by believing every word He says, for, "This is the work of God: that you believe..." John 6:29

Children naturally understand these profound spiritual truths. I can testify of this, having taught children in various Bible Club and Sunday School settings for years. I once made catechism flash cards for very young children, simple drawings, simple questions and simple answers.

No.4 was their favorite question: "Why did God make you and everything else?"

Answer: "For His Own Glory!"

I thought that answer might have been the hardest one to memorize. But I was wrong! These little children, toddlers actually, shouted out, "For His Own Glory!", with gusto. It was so much fun, that finally, no matter what the question, they would shout, "For His Own Glory!

I realized...that's it...it's all, "For His Own Glory!"

When the kids shouted, "For His Own Glory!", I found myself shouting,"Amen!"

And so, I present My Book to you now, knowing that the approval rating will be very low; knowing that the number of people who will embrace this book with joy and enthusiasm will be very small. And yet, before the LORD Jesus Christ, I present this book in faith, knowing that what I have said is true. I trust Him completely, knowing He will use it. For His Own Glory! Amen!

May God bless you, whoever you are, who would seek to tell forth the Glorious Gospel of His Sovereign Grace in the LORD Jesus Christ.

PREFACE TO THE BOOK

This collection of hymn tunes, The Book and The Audio CD, was developed at the request of a friend, who asked me to make a recording of lullaby music for a family with a new baby. I was thrilled to begin such a project, for what better way to bring comfort to a family and nurture a little baby than with lovely music that glorifies God?

I chose these ten hymns for their excellent melodies, of course, but more than that, each lovely tune is linked to essential truths about God - His Sovereignty, His Word and His Free Grace to fallen sinners in the Person and Work of the LORD Jesus Christ. I have tried to arrange these hymns in a sequence that will lead the hearer from one truth to another, outlining the astounding story of the mystery of God's Free Grace to His Own chosen people in Christ alone, through faith alone.

The words of each hymn are printed in this book. On each facing page is a lesson that parents can read to their children while the music is playing. The lessons are written in simple words that even a very young child can grasp. The lessons tell of a glorious Creator, Who made everything by The Word of His Power, of fallen man lost in sin and in need of reconciliation to An Holy God and of the Good News that God will have a people to love and worship Him now and forevermore. Children learn that God sent His Son to be the Saviour, the One Who would save His people from their sins.

The music is played at a deliberately slow tempo, because it is meant to be ‘sleepy time' music for a child. I hope that adults will find the music relaxing, too. You may already be familiar with these hymns or perhaps you have never heard any of this music before. In either case, I hope that this music will be an encouragement to everyone, awakening hearts and minds to consider the things of God. The music tells of profound realities - sin and death, heaven and hell, judgment for sin and the blessed promise of full pardon for sin and eternal life in the blood of the Lamb of God.

My sincere thanks to my good friend for inspiring the work and doing so much to help make her idea a reality. I present this to you now, praying that the people of God will reap rich treasures from these great Gospel truths. Praise be to God, Who is Faithful to bring all The Children of The Heavenly Father into His Eternal Rest at last. KSV 11/01/2009
