HALLELUJAH PRAISE THE SAVIOR Tune to “BRETHREN WE HAVE MET TO WORSHIP” 22.214.171.124. DOUBLE Words by JIM BYRD
1. Hallelujah praise the Savior, Son of God a Man became; He is worthy of all glory, Sing His wonders, spread His fame. Praise the holy name of Jesus, Who for sinners once was slain; By His blood He saved His people, Washed away sin’s crimson stain.
2. Hallelujah for the Savior Came to save His chosen bride; All our sins by God were pardoned, When our Lord was crucified; Who can tell how much He suffered, All our sin-debt to atone? Now He lives and reigns forever, Seated on His sovereign throne.
3. O what wondrous might and merit, In the blood of Jesus dwell; For the law of God was honored, And our souls were saved from hell. Hallelujah praise the Savior, Who our sins and sorrows bore; Now enthroned in matchless glory, Sing His praises evermore.
SCRIPTURE READINGS TODAY: MORNING: PSALM 110 EVENING: JOHN 3:18-36
DIVINE GRACE Divine grace is the sovereign and saving favor of God exercised in the bestowment of blessings upon those who have no merit in them and for which no compensation is demanded from them. Nay, more; it is the favor of God shown to those who not only have no positive deserts of their own, but who are thoroughly ill-deserving and hell-deserving. It is completely unmerited and unsought, and is altogether unattracted by anything in or from or by the objects upon which it is bestowed. Grace can neither be bought, earned, nor won by the creature. If it could be, it would cease to be grace. When a thing is said to be “of grace” we mean pure charity, unasked and undesired. –A. W. Pink
THE BLOOD BEFORE THE LORD Note in Scripture how many times the blood is said to be “before the Lord” Whether any man saw it or not was of small account, for it was offered for sin “before the Lord.” When the Passover lamb was slain in Egypt, where was the blood placed? It was on the OUTSIDE of the door, “before the Lord.” He said, “When I see the blood I will pass over you.” The suffering and death of Christ on behalf of His people was “before the Lord” - UNTO the Lord, to declare the Lord’s righteousness, to satisfy the Lord’s justice, to fulfill the Lord’s purpose, to glorify the Lord’s character, to enable the Lord to be both just and Justifier! The atonement does not change the NATURE and the character of God, but rather the atonement HONORS and MAGNIFIES the character of God. The death of Christ is NOT the cause of God’s love, but the result of it. God is not merciful because Christ died; Christ died because God is merciful. In order that every attribute might be expressed, glorified and honored, God gave His Son to be the Savior of chosen people! Thank God we have an atonement, “before the Lord.” –Henry Mahan
DISTINGUISHING GRACE At the great, white throne judgment, concerning those who will be “cast into the lake of fire,” John wrote that their names were “not found written in the book of life” (Rev.20:15). The book referenced is the Lamb’s book of life, written before the world was made (Rev 13:8) which contains the names of God’s elect, inscribed with the indelible ink of sovereign grace. The Holy Spirit could have inspired John to write, “And whosoever would not believe on Christ was cast into the lake of fire” and that would be accurate for they would not come to the only Savior to be saved by Him. Or, the Holy Spirit could have inspired John to write, “And whosoever did not repent of their dead works and submit to be saved by the obedience of the Son of God was cast into the lake of fire,” and that would also have been a valid statement because all who perish refused to turn from self-righteousness and be saved by the person and work of Christ. But, John was led to write, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” With those words, the Holy Spirit set forth the very origin of salvation and the cause of both faith and repentance, all of which is owing to the election of grace which took place before the world was made. Why were some given in covenant mercy to the eternal Surety to be redeemed by His blood and robed in His righteousness while others were left to perish in the lake of fire? This distinction is to be attributed solely to the sovereign pleasure of the Lord. “Even so Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight” (Matthew 11:26). –Pastor Jim Byrd
“For as the Father hath life in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself; And hath given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man.” (John 5:26-27)
