Day 4 Recovery -- Stable but pesky oxygen again
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2012

Day 4 Recovery. Still a very sleepy baby. Poor guy has daddy's wild hair.
Nurses about to do "suctioning" of his lungs. He doesn't like this and tries to cry but cannot because of the breathing tube. Poor baby.
Peaceful again after the suctioning ordeal.
We continue to be thankful that Martin is stable and doing so well after his rough surgery. This morning, his oxygen levels were low again. Apparently a "normal" baby should have an oxygen saturation level of 95-100. An HLHS baby should have an...

Day 3 Recovery. Martin is awake! One-week-old Martin wakes up to mommy's face after open-heart surgery.
Martin's chest is closed! Hooray!
He's awake! Early this morning, Martin began to awaken out of his deep sleep -- slowly. Every so often, he'll open his eyes and look straight at us! I don't know why it is -- but it's one of the most happy moments to witness him being awake...

Our first visit to see Martin after getting through the difficult 9-hour surgery. The Lord seems to have given Martin a strong heart.
Pray for our dear Baby Martin.
2/8/12 11:00pm: Martin 24 hours after surgery listening to lullaby music. Swelling has gone down and color is still good. Oxygen levels are improving. Still going strong. Praise the Lord!
It is almost 1am the day after Martin's big surgery. This has been the only opportunity to sit and write. Yesterday was really difficult as the almost 9-hour surgery took longer than expected. After Martin came off of the heart-lung machine the...

Only an hour to go before the surgery
The morning of the surgery
It is the day of the surgery and Jamie and I arrived at the hospital shortly after 6am this morning. We spent a good hour or so with Martin -- reading together, praying with him, and just talking to him. He was very docile again and we were just...

Feeding tube was inserted on 2/4/12 to give him a little bit of breastmilk. The stuffed toys came from some friends (Dickersons) at FFPC.
He's finally here! What a huge relief! Martin was finally born at 11:08am on Friday, Feb 3, 2012 in Charleston, SC. He came weighing right at 7lbs which is the largest of any of our children. This is particularly good news because having the extra...

On our way to the hospital early in the morning.
Waiting again for Baby Martin to come. We will be moved to the OR (Operating Room) when it gets closer to the time.
We checked into the hospital at 6am. It is currently 9am. Jamie is on a medicine called Oxytocin to help the baby come faster. The contractions are much stronger and very frequent. The baby's heartrate looks good on the monitor. There have been...
