It's official! This certificate makes our adoption officially legal!
With the director of the orphanage in Baoji, a very nice man. Gracie does smile for us every once in a while and it's wonderful to see it! If she thinks we're funny, wait'll she gets a load of the kids!
Gracie has bonded remarkably well with Jamie just within 24 hours. It is an answer to prayer really. The next two weeks will be an important transition time for Gracie.
Today was a big day. 11/11/13. Today was the day that Gracie's adoption became legal and official in the eyes of China. Ironically, we were told that today is also "Single's Day" in China -- a celebration of all single people (the "11"...

Getting ready to meet Gracie!
Our first encounter with Gracie. A little shy and unsure about us at first.
Gracie's Nanny from the orphanage was very sad to see her go.
From Jamie... Thank you all for your prayers. It is 1:30am our time and Gracie is sleeping peacefully. What a day! We met our guide and our driver and they took us to the civil affairs office to meet Gracie at around 4pm. When we walked in we saw...

The plane we will be on is huge. Direct to Shanghai from Detroit.
On our way to Xi'an from Shanghai. Almost 30 hours total, last leg of our trip!
Driving through Xi'an on our way to the hotel at midnight, we passed this pretty building.
The day has finally come for us to pick up Gracie from China! We are on our way! As I write this post we are sitting in the Detroit airport waiting for our connecting flight to Shanghai in a few hours. We left this morning at 6am and we are both...

An updated photo of Gracie at the orphange.
Jamie's perspective... Since today is Orphan Sunday, I thought that it would be a good opportunity to share a little bit of how God led us to Gracie. Sometime last year, a friend of ours posted a link to a website called www.rainbowkids.com. I...

Chapter 2 -- Martin Update and Adoption Plans!
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2013
Posted by: The Lee Family Homepage | more..

The first photo we received via email of this little girl in China with a heart defect needing a home.
The earliest record of our little girl. The newspaper clipping reads: "She was found near a sidewalk near a garden. When she was found, she was wrapped in a blanket, with a shirt on and the person left a bag of diaper, some baby formula, and pacifier. The person that find her took her to the police station and they turned her over to the government."
We sent a Hello Kitty over to Gracie along with pictures of her new family!
It has been several months since our last post. It seems the last time we wrote, Martin celebrated his first birthday. Today, he is doing really quite amazing. He is so incredibly active and he is very strong. He is growing fast and learning to...

Milestone -- Martin Reaches His One-Year Birthday!
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 08, 2013
Posted by: The Lee Family Homepage | more..

What a difference one year makes!
Justin, Katie, Martin, and Calvin. We love our growing family.
Martin celebrates his first birthday with both families. The cake was provided by a non-profit organization called "Icing Smiles" -- they provide cakes for sick children.
Martin has reached his first birthday! It's really rather amazing to look back on 2012 and see just how far Martin has come. Quite like looking back down the steep trail of a mountain climb. This time last year we were all in Charleston, SC and...

Saying goodbye to the 4th floor of MUSC!
In the car ready to leave the hospital. Martin knows exactly what's going on. We haven't seen him this excited ever!
Hooray! We're being discharged today! We were told this morning by the doctor that Martin is looking very good and his last x-ray looked clear. We've been given the green light to start packing our bags! Needless to say, we are ecstatic! Dr....

MONDAY, AUGUST 20, 2012
Posted by: The Lee Family Homepage | more..

Guess who's starting to smile again? Faint, but we'll take it.
Finally got rid of the nasal cannula! Tubes and lines are disappearing. Comfort level is increasing!
Martin sitting up and getting stronger.
Martin continues to make a rapid recovery! Since our last post on Saturday, our children visited us over the weekend, Martin was moved from PCICU to "the floor" in the Children's Hospital, he had his RA lines removed (from his heart), he had his...

SATURDAY, AUGUST 18, 2012
Posted by: The Lee Family Homepage | more..

The children loved seeing their little brother again.
Our exit from the PCICU!
Slowly making a recovery. Starting to look like his old self.
Things are continuing to look bright for Martin! He's no longer in the PCICU but is now in the step-down unit (on the 8th floor) of the Children's Hospital at MUSC. More and more lines have been removed and the only remaining things in him are his...

FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 2012
Posted by: The Lee Family Homepage | more..

Martin was extubated in record time!
Starting to smile?
Early this morning the doctors pulled out Martin's breathing tube! He was breathing very well on his own within 12 hours of his surgery -- which is very fast actually. Also, the cardiologist said that the echocardiogram they did on his heart...
