Great Sermon! Fabulous message, so easy to look at the world around us and feel defeated, but when we understand the message of the bible we can be encouraged and strengthened by the promises of God. I believe this is the message of revival and renewed interest in the bible. |

Engaging Message! It must be realized that there is a marked distinction between a government enforcing the Law of God and a government enforcing a man-made confession such as the Westminster Confession of Faith. Confession enforcement is what characterizes many governments of the past and the Lord rightly brought these instances to an end. Confession enforcement was the hallmark of the Pharisees as well, and Christ consistently confronted them on this matter for "exceeding what is written" as the apostle called it. This "exceeding" is what characterizes most confessions, although adherents of each confession will deny this. The Confessionalist many times, makes his understanding an idol, and likewise persecutes the heretics that disagree. Jefferson and Madison (I think wisely) saw through this and established religious freedom, first in Virginia. If you read Jefferson's position on this matter, he stresses the dependence of their system on Truth-preaching. The Truth if preached will always prevail, he believed. As a result, Jefferson and Madison established a competitive preaching environment designed to shake out error. Confessionalist in government on the other hand, usually try to take out the competition. May the Lord raise up government leaders that respect His Law. |
