“ Reasonably good Sermon! ”
Reasonably good sermon but could someone explain Christ's words in Matt 12:40 "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".

If a person who is in Christ cannot sin what is the purpose of sin in the righteous persons life?

“ John Wesley: 'I do not love God. I never did.' ”
Because John Wesley is mentioned in this MP3, the following information may be helpful, regarding John Wesley's beliefs. Late in his life John Wesley wrote: "I do not love God. I never did. Therefore I never believed, in the Christian sense of the word." See more about John Wesley's teaching at http://ow.ly/yPJ3u – as what John Wesley really believed is quite shocking and certainly not in accord with the Bible.

“ The Scientist for Studying the Christian Heart ”
This month I have begun narrating this whole book once again. Certainly because a better digital recording is helpful to have. But more importantly because it makes me meditate on it. Owen wrote, "Where prayers are effectual, they will bring in spiritual strength. But the prayers of many seem to be very spiritual, and to express all conceivable supplies of grace, and they are persisted in with constancy, — and God forbid we should judge them to be hypocritical and wholly insincere, — yet there is a defect somewhere, which should be inquired after, for they are not so answered as that they who pray them are strengthened with strength in their souls. There is not that spiritual thriving, that growth in grace, which might be expected to accompany such supplications...how persons should continue in prayer in general according to the mind of God, so far as can be outwardly discovered, and yet thrive not at all as unto spiritual strength in their souls, is hard to be understood. And, which is yet more astonishing, men abide in the duty of prayer, and that with constancy, in their families and otherwise, and yet live in known sins. Whatever spiritual thoughts such men have in and by their prayers, they are not spiritually minded. puritanaudiobooks.net

“ Great Sermon! ”
Men think that neglecting and slighting of ordinances, profaning of the Lord’s day and holy things, is no such great evil, if it be an evil at all; but there is hardly any thing kindles the wrath of God hotter than the casting off, despising, and abusing the ordinances and mediums appointed of God, for his worship, our good, comfort, and salvation. Their sins here of this nature put God into fury, which is more than anger or wrath; upon pouring out of fury, and such pouring out as to consume them. Heb. 10.25—27, he tells you of some that did forsake the assemblies, cast off the ordinances of God, which was a wilful and provoking sin, excluding mercy, and hastening judgment and fierce indignation, which should destroy. When God in his infinite wisdom and mercy hath condescended to man’s weakness, given him ordinances and mediums wherein he will be worshipped, and through which he will do good to the creature, and now the foolish creature to neglect, despise, or profane them, this pierces God’s heart, and transforms his patience into fury, and puts him into ways of destruction. - William Greenhill, An Exposition of the Prophet Ezekiel

“ The Puritan John Flavel On Worship That God Hates ”
Thanks MS! The Puritan John Flavel makes the same point that Jim Dodson does in the sermon above, when he writes, "By all which, you see where the idolatry of worship lies. The instituting of any, though the smallest part of worship, in and by our own authority, without scripture-warrant, makes it idolatrous, as well as if we worshipped an idol" (Ex: 20:5)." - John Flavel, The Works of John Flavel, Vol, 4. p. 527 (on the Puritan Hard Drive, http://ow.ly/dZ3ua).

“ Great Sermon! ”
So let us hold to this rule, that all human inventions which are set up to corrupt the simple purity of the word of God, and to undo the worship which he demands and approves, are true sacrileges, in which the Christian man cannot participate without blaspheming God, and trampling his honor underfoot. - John Calvin

“ The Spiritual Bondage Of Christmas, Easter, Etc. ”
Well said Asa! The following quote is interesting and sadly demonstrates how far our generation of Protestant and Reformed churches have fallen into the spiritual bondage of keeping Pagan and Roman Catholic holy days, which are not authorized by God in the Bible: In 1899, the General Assembly of the PCUS was overtured to give a "pronounced and explicit deliverance" against the recognition of "Christmas and Easter as religious days." Even at this late date, the answer came back in a solid manner: "There is no warrant in Scripture for the observance of Christmas and Easter as holydays, rather the contrary (see Gal. 4:9-11; Col. 2:16-21), and such observance is contrary to the principles of the Reformed faith, conducive to will-worship, and not in harmony with the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ." - Kevin Reed, Christmas: An Historical Survey Regarding Its Origins and Opposition to It (Free Online Book at http://ow.ly/yacpW).

“ John Calvin On Musical Instruments In Worship ”
Great quote Iain! John Calvin also wrote, "We are to remember that the worship of God was never understood to consist in such outward services, which were only necessary to help forward a people as yet weak and rude in knowledge in the spiritual worship of God. A difference is to be observed in this respect between his people under the Old and under the New Testament; for now that Christ has appeared, and the church has reached full age, it were only to bury the light of the gospel should we introduce the shadows of a departed dispensation. From this it appears that the Papists, as I shall have occasion to show elsewhere, in employing instrumental music cannot be said so much to imitate the practice of God's ancient people as to ape it in a senseless and absurd manner, exhibiting a silly delight in that worship of the Old Testament which was figurative and terminated with the gospel." More by John Calvin and others about why musical instruments are not for use in worship in the church, since Christ (the Light)) came and did away with all those ceremonial "shadows", can be found at http://tinysa.com/144645, in the blog "JOHN CALVIN ON MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN CHURCH PUBLIC WORSHIP, EDWARDS, SPURGEON, KNOX, OWEN, et al.".

“ Great Sermon! ”
While many who employ [the organ] consider themselves the very champions of Protestantism, it will be long, long indeed, before they uproot Popery by this regulator of choirs; and while nothing has ever proved more annoying to Papists than the singing of Psalms in a congregational manner, the playing of all the heretical organs in Christendom causes to them comparatively little sorrow. On the contrary, the cross surmounting a Protestant meeting house, and the swelling tones of the organ within, give to her sons the hope that “holy mother” may yet receive these errorists, who are, at least, so far rejoicing under her shadow, and becoming familiar with her “image and superscription. —Alexander Blaikie, The Philosophy of Sectarianism
