Edward Payson 1 comment “ Great Sermon! ” This is a very powerful sermon by thousands old saint that is as timely today as when preached a century ago. It stabbed me in the heart as a mother to an only child who was raised in the knowledge of the Lord and who now as a 30 yr old adult has turned from His ways into the wide road of abominable sin before God. I can't help but grieve and wonder of my failure in her nurturing in truth that did not carry her to the point of true salvation. A powerful but bitter message and yet as long as she has breath, God may still be merciful toward her and toward me. A much-publicized Universalist author, Boyd C. Purcell, is presently making the radio talk show circuit, raising the damnable heresy of "Christian" Universalism (which includes "no literal hell" for persons, only for their sins), and even worse a Persecution of biblical Christianity and Christians!-- saying that such as teach the doctrine of hell are *guilty of abusing others* and "Spiritual Terrorism" (condemning all terror of conscience)--which is the title of his book. SID=1125071523546 - I have read a lot of the 2 volumes but didn't remember this story. A couple of nights later I read it to the family for our devotions. This is a solemn account and worth hearing. John Murray 2 comments “ Thanks for posting this! ” Michael, after Solid Ground published the proceedings from the original 1939 conference, from which this post is read, it provoked a number of local pastors here in Northern New Jersey, to hold a similar conference to glorify God in His sovereign grace. So in June of this year (2009), on the 70th anniversary of the original conference, 6 local pastors will be joined by key note speaker, Dr. James White, to celebrate and thank God for these men who evidently prayed for this area of the country, and to exalt our sovereign God. Alexander 1 comment “ Thanks for this narration ” Often when I think of the sons of Archibald Alexander, I think of James Waddell Alexander as the preacher - he pastored 5th Ave Presbyterian Church in NYC. I tend to think of J A Alexander as the great exegete of Princeton - it was said of him that he knew as many as 26 languages! It is interesting to have a sample of his sermons here.
