Hebrews 2:15 .. And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage... Exodus 1:14 ... And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field... Also, I have read that true believers may be made "bitter" by partaking of the "inward parts" of the body of Christ...spiritually speaking. Numbers 9:11  The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs... Exodus 12:8  And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it... Sometimes we are made to partake of the body of Christ (with bitter herbs)...to "fill up that which is behind of the sufferings of Christ"...Colossians 1:24 ... and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church... So Peter tells us... 1 Peter 4:12  ¶Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you... Thank God for the Gospel! We must be brought off of the old stock of Adam, and by faith alone be engrafted into Christ! This was somewhat "painful" for me because of a strong religious background and because I was raised in Arminianism. We must renounce all trust in our own "good works" and self rightousness, and stand complete in Him alone by the imputed Righteousness of Christ alone... Some good advice is given here on how true believers may have full assurance of salvation in the hour of death. Being raised in a legalistic "holiness movement", this sermon was very meaningful to me personally. It is the true Gospel that is important, and not just believing a doctrine of the "changed life" or "outward reform" or "self improvement programs"....etc. Many today think they are saved, but they have only submited to a list of rules and "will worship"...sad to say. This indeed has a "show of wisdom" in doing "what is right", but remember, Satan can transform himself into a "minister of righteousness". He says..."Do right, do right, do right"....but he does not tell you how to saved by Christ alone and by the imputed righteousness of Christ alone! Our faith is not a "work" that we have to perform to be saved... The truth is so simple when God opens your eyes to see it! When we believe the true gospel, it is the work of the Spirit of God in us... John 6:29...  Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent...Thank God for His imputed Righteousness, received by faith alone! So glad to hear messages like this one. We need to be careful that we (as a church doctrinally speaking) do not go back into the dark ages!
