Name of the Savior. The precious Name of Jesus Christ - a name to be praised, a name to be trusted, a name to be proclaimed. We must proclaim a message of justification, a message of joy and a message of judgment.
Great man of God. Powerful and blessed message! What a great man made God from Stephen, a Christian full of the Spirit, a preacher full of power, a saint full of zeal and courage! Very encouraging message.
Healing divisions. Satan attacks the church from inside and there is the danger of division. God resolves the problem, giving the church the wisdom to deal with spiritual mindedness with the problem. The result is that the work of the Lord prospers.
Great Sermon! Christians today have not prepared their hearts to seek the Lord and it is a sin, says Pastor Cairns. When Jesus says to enter your closet he is saying you must separate yourself from every distraction; that if you would have communion with God you must get away from everything that would hinder it. Remember Ezra, says Cairns. He PREPARED his heart to seek God. Do not rush into the presence of God. Attend first to God's Word; the Word and prayer must always go together. There must be a preparation and that preparation must be attending to God's Word. C.H. Waller once said out it this way: "Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth" is no bad preparation for "Hear Lord, for thy servant speaketh." If we would want to be able to speak, first of all listen. We have lost the secret of listening to our God.
"There is a place for continuing all night in prayer but prayer is not great because of it's length!", says Cairns. "it's great because of it's depth."
We will find that the Word will give us great thoughts of God, in preparation for prayer. You can actually pray your way thru the chapters of the Bible. When you come to any chapter, what does it teach you about Christ? The Word will convict you of your sin, enable you to pray, motivate you to.
Great Sermon! Thank GOD for Dr. Barrett's GOD given ability to make the WORD stick. I now understand what beauty for ashes means. There are no media on some sermon titles is it posted somewhere else on sermonaudio? I would like to listen to them. Thank you Dr. Barrett.
LIVING EPISTLES Pastor Mercer is right on target when he points out in this sermon how very important it is to how Christians conduct their lives. They need to realize that they are "living epistles" that are carrying a message that is "being read." Make no mistake about it! men judge Christ by His followers. And, a holy life lived before the ungodly is often the instrument that God uses to bring to bear on the depraved. Just this week, I read of a man who gave this testimony--"It was the example and prayers of my wife, under God, that had more effect in bringing me to Christ than all the sermons that I had ever heard."
Illumination. The essential role of the Spirit of God to illuminate man and to give spiritual understanding. The preacher cannot do that, but only the Holy Spirit. The unregenerate man, therefore, cannot understand the Gospel, the revelation of God, without being illuminated by the Spirit.
Revelation. A presentation of 4 aspects of the work of the Holy Spirit in man, followed by a discussion on 1 Cor. 2:6-9. The Gospel, the wisdom of God, is a mystery, hidden to unbelievers, but made known by revelation.
Great Sermon! A much needed sermon for all Christians, especially 'Christians' who have been deceived by the 'prosperity Gospel'. Pastor Colin Mercer fearlessly warns us that a 'trouble-free' life for the Christian is not the teaching of the Word of God. He also cites the examples of Joseph, Job and Peter from the Scriptures to show us that all God's children will have their share of trials. But then he offers the comforting Balm that God will never try any one of His children more than they are able to bear.
This was indeed a comforting 'word in season' for ME. This is a sermon that must be heard more than once to remind us that trials and testings are a part of our Christian life and we must not be surprised or shaken by them.
EXCELLENT !! This is the best sermon that I've ever heard preached on election. It is put forth in plain terms with scriptural backing. As Pastor Mercer is careful to point out, election is not myth. It is God-breathed and in black and white for all to read. As the Scripture says, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated" (Romans 9:13; Malachi 1:1-3). It PLEASED GOD to show mercy to Jacob and not to Esau. No man deserves the grace of God, and we dare not call God unjust because He has withheld His grace from some and bestowed it upon others. He is Sovereign and is absolutely free to "elect to be saved" whomever He chooses. To reject the Sovereignty of God, is man expressing his own depravity and sinfulness.
Sigh! I enjoyed this sermon too.
I feel fed and satisfied.I'm loving my Saviour more and more everyday.
What a wonderful GOD we serve!
What a great inheritance we have in HIM.
What a wonderful privilege to be set apart for HIS glory.
My heart longs for HIM like never before.
