Great Sermon! I have listened to this sermon three times--always in the early hours before dawn when I have been unable to sleep. It has brought me much comfort. Thank you, Rev. Murray, for sharing your profound insight into Matthew 14:25.
JUST ONCE! C'mon, try it JUST ONCE! If there was a hall of fame for sermons, this one would be nominated because there is a lot of good teaching in it. (For example, why the temptations of Jesus are all external to him and not internal. I'd never even noticed that before.) But the point that is most important is Satan's temptation to try something JUST ONCE. Young people, not-so-young people, and everyone else needs to hear this because that's the way temptation is a lot of times -- try it just once, see what it is like, and be experienced enough to talk about it. What a lie!
Learn about this simple but deep word This is a sermon I wish I'd had as a new Christian because it defines what "propitiation" means; I had both wondered what this was about and heard many suspect definitions. This sermon provides a good in-depth overview of what the term means.
Unique look at difficult text Definitely an interesting look at a difficult text - from the Christian's perspective - this text is frequently used by the prosperity gospel which has a distorted, strange view of what happened to Job. This sermon brings the text into its place as part of the revelation of Christ, and is recommended to people who have heard the prosperity gospel's distortions and want to have a more balanced, scriptural view.
Learning from the other side A unique look at the other thief on the cross who was not saved. There's so much to learn from the other side of the duos in the Bible, like the two crucified thieves, the Prodigal Son and his other brother, Mary and Martha, etc.
Great Sermon! Found this sermon to be an encouraging word from the Lord at a difficult time when 'waiting' in a seemingly impossible situation from whence only the Lord can deliver. Psalm 50:15
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
Quiet confidence in the God of the impossible-HE will be exalted!
This makes Christianity distinct, and is important This message centers on what makes Christianity unique among religious beliefs, and why it is important to both believers and non-believers alike. This truth is so vital to Christianity that it is being suppressed today. The uniqueness of Christ as savior and Lord is the only thing which separates true, Biblical Christianity from other religions.
Must listen - sanctification! This is a must-listen sermon on sanctification. It has so much good stuff it's hard for me to summarize - about what sanctification is and isn't, how to do it, etc. If you want a good sermon on sanctification, the truth about the human body and sin from the Bible, etc, this is an excellent resource. I can't do it justice in a short comment.
Who is beyond God's forgiveness? no one... This sermon is on a part of the Bible that is earthy and where we live. If you think you're such a sinner that God couldn't forgive you, see what happened with Hosea, Gomer, and their children. No one is beyond the power of the blood of Jesus Christ to forgive, and this sermon brings it out by tackling a part of the Bible you don't hear too many sermons on.
This is what's missing in today's preaching Repentance is the missing note in today's preaching. If you want to hear what preaching should sound like, listen to this sermon, because it gives the Biblical reason for repentance -- why it is a necessary beginning of salvation. I know that this message is not being preached anymore.
Examining a wonderful text Galatians 6:14 has always been a wonderful text, to me, and I haven't really heard a sermon like this which takes it apart and explains it in such detail. After hearing this, the text is even more meaningful.
A good word for the young people! Pay heed...! A good word for young people - adolescents, young people at the age when they're getting more independent, and even those going off to college ought to put this on their MP3 players and listen to it occasionally. If you know someone like this, get a copy into their hands. The Bible has a lot to say about how the world entices people into sin. The world never shows you the consequences of sin, just the short-lived fun. You have to deal with the consequences on your own, because by then the world has already abandoned you and moved on to the next person its trying to corrupt. Very few people will be true to your soul and show you what the Bible says, so treasure a sermon like this.
Good teaching Excellent look at the covenant and what it means at a basic level - not only the covenant itself, although that's the main thrust, but what it means to Christians in their own lives. The word of faith movement has an aberrant view of the covenant that they teach - I encourage people who haven't studied what the Bible says about the covenant to listen to this message.
Very deep subject The Fourth Watch is a very intriguing
topic and seems to be filled with much
interpretation for Christians. Beyond
Peter's walking on water incident, there's much to get out of this sermon. It truly makes you think about the full meaning of it all.
Our dire situation and what Christ did to save us This is one of the best evangelical sermons I've heard - in the years to come it will be a classic - this explains our situation before a holy and just God, and how we could not save ourselves, and then goes on to show how Christ took our place. Sound theology is combined with passionate preaching. Don't miss this one. (Talion is a legal term which we usually see in the "lex talionis", the law of retaliation - meaning the punishment fits the crime - the sermon explains this word!)
A deep insight This sermon is about Samson, but it contains some deep insights into how God can use sin to further his own purposes for his glory. I benefitted greatly from listening to this and reflecting on it.
While it is still today If you've found this sermon on the Internet and are pondering whether to listen to it, please listen while it is still today - don't put it off. This is your chance to hear the good news of Christ while today is still today! The Bible has many warnings about waiting too long.
