Good study. A good explanation of the work of the Law which leads us to Christ, showing us the standard of God and the impossibility of us fulfilling it. In the Gospel there is revealed a righteousness of Christ which can be imputed to us and an effective work of the Holy Spirit which regenerates us and sanctifies us in our Christian walk.
New covenant. It is true, Christ made us ministers of the new covenant. In this new covenant there is answer for our guilt, for our sin, for our weaknesses. In it there is life abundant. However, I think here Paul make a contrast between the new covenant and the Mozaic covenant, not with the covenant with Adam.
Made by God. What a serious and blessed teaching: the minister of Gospel is made and equipped by God for the work. And in a special way, He belongs more to God than to his family, and He belongs more to God than to himself! He must say what God commanded him to say. So the people must not come criticizing him, but asking him: “Are you sure that God commanded you to say these things?”
Living letters. Very beautiful the idea that we, Christians, are the letters of Christ, written with the Holy Spirit, to be read by all the people around us. Our lives must show the reality of our pretension to be Christians.
Great test. I remember a time in my Christian life when I played with sin and my mother knew this and came to me many times with the Word of God. I remember that I KNEW THAT GOD WAS RIGHT AND I HATED THAT HE WAS RIGHT! His Word was a stench in my nostrils, I couldn't bear it. If this was for me when I wanted not to submit to the Word, what it is the Word for unregenerated people, who hate the ways of God? But for those who love God and submit to His Word, His ways are delight.
IT'S THE BLOOD!! I like that Pastor Foster carefully points out in this sermon that neither a person's ancestry or adherence to rituals gets one to heaven. Only the shed blood of Jesus Christ saves a person. Until Christ brought me at age 50 into a personal relationship with Him, I was one of those who was deceived--believed that I was saved and going to heaven because I was a baptized church member from an early age. Multitudes have gone out into an eternity WITHOUT CHRIST because of having believed THAT LIE.
Extraordinary. Extraordinary sermon! The sin in congregation tests all the members of the church! Everyone must determine in himself what will he do regarding that sin: will confront it or will tolerate it? Sin in congregation tests our allegiance to God and out knowledge about the workings of the devil. Very relevant message for the situation in which I find myself now.
Restoration in love. A repenting sinner must be accepted and restored to fellowship. The brotherhood which disciplined sin with determination must show sincere love for accepting again into fellowship the repented one. Love doesn's mean that we will not confront the sinner for his sin, but that we will do it for his good.
Repentance. The minister's hope and a Christian's hope is that the preaching of the Word brings repentance. The practice of church discipline keeps the church healthy. The Church of Christ must not play with sin, but bring honor to God by disciplining sin.
Great warning. Minsters of the Gospel must have integrity before God and men, because the Christ we preach has integrity. We must be careful to the our words - so that do not disqualify ourselves before people.
True. It is true: we cannot serve God with a bad conscience. We must seek to have a good conscience before God and men, and this is possible only through the working of God’s grace in us. Very good the denouncing of Billy Graham’s unbiblical methods in “evangelism”.
Solders indeed? Yes, we cannot serve the Lord without meeting with opposition and trouble. There are too many Christians who say that they are solders in the army of Christ, and in a spiritual war, but who never took up the sword to fight. You cannot see that they give a blow to the enemy or that they receive one from it. Too many are solders only in words…
The Great Teacher. It is true, in the Christian life there is a place for trouble and suffering, but God is comforting His people. Only in God we have comfort, not in pleasures, dictractions or pursuing wordly ends. And God brings us through hard experiences as ministers of the Gospel, so to equip us to help and comfort others who are going through the same hard times.
Burden. Blessed and encouraging message: there is a place in Christian life and Christian ministry for stress and worry, because of our burden for the Church and for the unconverted. The knowledge and understanding of this gives us a healthy perspective on the ministry.
Great examples. A story of some people dedicated to the Lord and His service, whom we must follow as examples in faith and dedication. People who counted the Lord and His service as the most dear things in their lives.
