Shelton, Sr. 2 comments “ Great Sermon! ” At 17;52 pastor Shelton says "Spare the rod, spoil the child, despite popular opinion, the famous saying, "Spare the rod, spoil the child," cannot be found anywhere in the Bible. The saying, however, should not be considered invalid as there are verses that promote a similar concept. Proverbs 13:24 He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently. Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him. Proverbs 23:13-14 Do not hold back discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. You shall strike him with the rod And rescue his soul from Sheol. Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother. Taken from www.BLB.org Great message though. And in my time I have heard THOUSANDS of Calvinistic sermons. Please listen to this message with an open heart, and may God speak to you about your own soul's condition. SALVATION is far more than believing the Bible or believing the "doctrines of grace." Give it a listen, though I'm not sure of the correctness of all parts of this message. He says it is wrong to paint pictures of Jesus, or even of things in the sea, but I see nothing wrong with making tributes to the Savior, personally, as long as it is not worshipped (do not worship any image!).
