Never heard this explanation about self denial before. The key is denying one self, even if you are in the right and following Christ. You never know whose life you may impact by doing this. You are a great blessing Pastor Downs. Your sermons seem to be very relevant to me on a daily basis. However, none will give Him the homage and glory that He deserves, by saying that He is the Messiah. I have even heard it said that Jesus will be punished greatly for claiming to be the Messiah, taking many Jews away from Judaism. When I do proclaim that I believe that Jesus was and is the Messiah, I often have the Jews that I am speaking with, walk away. I truly believe that He is the Son of God and is God in the flesh, the Messiah and the King of Kings! I have 5 sons and one daughter and have explained the gospel to each child. They all responded differently. One child wanted to ponder the committment, before deciding whether he wanted to be a true disciple of Christ and told me that he had to think about this decision. He came back after one week and decided that he truly wanted to follow Christ. He counted the cost and is still following Christ to this day. Another son also said that he wanted to follow Christ, without counting the costs and showed no true repentance. He went to church and walked down the aisle and yet the following week, he stopped attending church services. Your sermons are so rich with the truth! Please never stop preaching the whole word of God! Here in Israel, if you dress a certain way (for women that means covering the hair, 3/4 length sleeves, no legs exposed, even in the very hot summers) you are respected and treated as if you are holy. I am constantly telling the Jews that holiness comes from the inside and not the outside. I dress as they do, because I do agree with the modesty issue. Then when I am approached by the Haredi sect, I tell them about Yeshua and the true gospel. Many thanks for these sermons! Tradition is man made innovations! The Jews still wash their hands before eating bread with a prayer to this day. If this isn't done, during the meal on Shabbat, the person isn't allowed to participate and eat the meal. The Jews really know how to maneuvre themselves around their laws, in order to do what they desire. They discuss at great length the law, not to learn from God's law and obey it, but in order to find ways to do what they want and claim that they are still obeying the word of God. Unbelievers rejection blinds them to the word of God! They can not grasp the Kingdom of God, nor can they understand the word of God. I have found this to be true whether the person was Catholic or whether they were Jewish! Our Spirit receives the truth from the Spirit of God if we are true disciples. Also, the fact that Jesus had brothers and sisters, puts a big disclaimer onto the Catholic church's teachings. They believe that Jesus didn't have any siblings. Well said Pastor Downs! You are Blessed! Another reason why you should flee fornication that wasn't mentioned is that this will ruin your testimony!!! I am ashamed of my past behvior and even though I am now following the word of God, the past unfortunately ruined my testimony. I was supposedly a Christian and my life didn't line up with the word of God. How I wish that I listened to biblical advice! Perhaps I misunderstood, but I believe that you said in this sermon that the Jewish people or Jewish nation will be judged seperately than the Gentiles. Did I hear correctly? I thought that everyone would be judged according to what they have done with the Messiah! So grateful for these sermons preached by Pastor Downs. After years of telling my girlfriend the way to salvation, she finally asked me if it was true that the only way to Heaven is accepting Christ and what He has done on the cross. Repentence I told her and turn from your way and accept what Christ has done on the cross. I am becoming more bold with my telling others of Christ and His gospel, upon hearing these sermons daily. The non religious Jews that I have contact with tell me that they have never seen a Christian so dedicated to their work. I tell them that I work as if unto the Lord. You never know what impact you may have on others if you just live the word and open up your mouth wherever you can. Many thanks for these sermons! They are a real blessing! I especially enjoy the expounding of the word of God and real life examples. Presently me and my husband are searching for another place to move to, because we have outgrown our apartment and we finally found an apartment that was exactly what we needed. The real estate agent asked me why I didn't make aliyah (which means that you are a Jew returning to your homeland) and this can't be done if you believe in Jesus as the Messiah. When I told her that I did not make aliyah, because I won't deny that Yeshua is my Messiah, the tables were turned and we were denied the apartment rental. The Jews claim that there are people that are antisemite, but there are also many Jews who despise Christians and they are hatred to anyone who opens their mouth and speak the truth! I can't help but profess my allegiance to my Lord and Savior and while it is a joy to do this, it is very hard when presecution is on a daily basis.
