Camden Avenue Baptist Church has been a part of the Cambrian Park community in San Jose since the 1950s. Though much has changed, our calling as a church remains simple: to function as a living testimony in our community to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The story of CABC is the same story as the one God has been telling throughout all of human history for people everywhere: sinners redeemed by grace through faith in Jesus Christ –who is, in fact, the Ruler over all that is seen and unseen and the most valuable, magnificent, glorious Person in the universe.
God has revealed in His Word that every human being was created and exists for the distinct purpose of magnifying and glorifying the greatness of His Son, Jesus Christ. Accordingly, God made a universe in which He is best magnified in us when we are most satisfied in Him. Therefore, we at CABC are radically committed to helping you be completely satisfied in God through His Son, Jesus.
When your greatest joy, deepest passion, and ultimate purpose for living is to bring glory and honor to God through your loving obedience to Jesus, then and only then will you know the "peace of God that transcends all understanding" and experience the transformation of character we long for most. This is the gospel work of our Savior that we teach, preach and share with others. Jesus did not come to recruit the strong and healthy. He came to save helpless sinners and "give His life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45).
We hope you feel at home here at Camden, whatever your ethnic, religious, or cultural background may be. We are not perfect, but we have been saved by the One who is and it is by His power and grace that we collectively strive to become "a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that we may declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9-10).
From the Pastors: Jesus said, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last" (John 15:16).
Our desire at Camden Avenue Baptist Church is to be faithful to the calling of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and bear much fruit, not only to bless the community of Cambrian Park, but also to bring honor and glory to God.
Although we know this is our calling and the very reason God created us, we also know that it is impossible to bear any good fruit apart from the gospel of grace. The Apostle Paul said in Romans, "There is no one righteous, not even one . . . there is no one who does good, not even one" (Rom 3:10, 12). But because of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the believer saved by grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit can "live a life worthy of the calling" (Eph 4:1). In other words, the gospel of grace has the power to not only save us from the consequences of sin and death, but also empower us to live holy lives that are pleasing to God. This is a most remarkable thing.
As sinners we are bound by sin, enslaved to it. As sinners saved by grace, we are set free from the bondage of sin and able, for the time, to bear good fruit. To be a people filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal 5:22-23).
Our church is a family comprised of ordinary people made extraordinary by God’s grace. We are a family that strives to display the love of Christ in our daily lives as we care for one another, pray for each other, and meet the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of those in the body of Christ. It is our desire to see God glorified as we grow in our communal love for Jesus and minister the gospel of grace to our neighbors in the Cambrian Park community.
It is our hope that we will, in some way, have an opportunity to bless you with the amazing grace of God as well.
