Peace Reformed Church is a member congregation of the Reformed Church in the United States. The name Reformed means that we are historically connected to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. At that time our sovereign God used men like Martin Luther and John Calvin to direct the church back to the teaching of the Bible. Our ancestors came to America from Europe in the early 18th century.
We believe that the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the divinely inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God. It is our final authority. The Spirit of God opens the hearts of God’s chosen people to the truth revealed in its pages.
The head of our church is Jesus Christ, who has given instructions in the Bible for the placing of officers in the church to rule on His behalf. Our Consistory (elders and deacons) guards the temporal interests of the church, and the Spiritual Council (elders) watches over the spiritual condition of our congregation.
By common consent we have adopted the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort as our confessional standards. While these are not to be taken as being as authoritative as the Bible, we do believe they accurately summarize the doctrines of the Bible itself.
Our Savior and Lord
We are a truly evangelical church, which means we believe and teach salvation through Jesus Christ alone. His perfect life, death and resurrection on our behalf mean our sins are forgiven us by God. Even though we would never love God on our own, since each one of us is a sinner, God changes us by His Word and Spirit so that we trust in Jesus for salvation. In thankfulness for His love for us, God expects us to live righteous and holy lives.
We trust that God will keep us in this faith until the second appearance of Jesus Christ at which time both the living and the dead will be judged as those who believe in Christ will live and reign with Him forever.
