Consideration:
1. A major reason for Philippians is to say thank
you to a group of generous believers who had sent
Paul much needed support gifts. When Paul received
their gifts, he said it caused him to rejoice greatly
in the Lord. Imagine how our missionaries feel when
they receive a love gift from “home”.
2. What is your definition of contentment? If you
were to say I am content—what would you mean? Cf.
Phil. 4:11-12 In Paul's circumstance what does he
mean?
3. What are some of the symptoms of discontent in
our lives? Economically, spiritually, physically,
mentally, emotionally. Why do you think our lives in
America are so discontent?
4. What irony…a man sitting in prison because of
corrupt officials awaiting possible false charges,
tells us how to find contentment! Why is this
important? Cf. I Tim. 6:6-9; Heb 13:5-6
5. From Paul's instruction how do we find
contentment? What is “the secret”? Phil. 4:10-13
Where are you in the process of “learning”
contentment? Cf. Heb. 10:34; Matt. 6:31-34
6. Faithful giving was one of the first things Paul
established in the lives of new believers. cf. Phil.
4:14-15 Notice they took the initiative to support
Paul. Why did Paul encourage them to give? Cf. Matt.
20:18-20 What did he believe about eternal investing?
Cf. 4:17
7. In light of their faithful giving Paul gives a
magnificent promise. Why do you believe you can
claim this promise? Cf. Phil. 4:19 Do you make giving
an act of worship in your life? Can you share how you
have seen God's gracious hand supplying your needs?
