First Peter is considered a Wilderness Epistle. It pictures believers as journeying on from the time of salvation to our inheritance in heaven or from the cross to Glory. Peter wrote to encourage his brethren (Hebrew-Christians who were scattered through-out the world) to continue trusting Christ, even in the midst of suffering. A key verse for the letter is found in 1 Peter 5:12b where he writes . . . “I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.” He is writing about the grace that God ministers to His children day by day. It enables us to stand against the wiles of the enemy and to endure the many trials we will encounter in this life. Peter is reminding his readers of the sufficiency of God’s grace.
