In studying the doctrine of the Holy Spirit we are confronted with the glorious doctrine of the Trinity. The doctrine of the Trinity is at the heart of the Christian faith. It is also a challenging doctrine. There is so much in Scripture on the subject. We want to be very careful in our understanding lest we fall into error on the subject. One of the early church theologians, Gregory Nazianzen, is famous for saying, When I say ‘God,’ I mean Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We must always hold together the unity and tri-unity of God. This will help us keep both from doctrinal and practical errors that greatly affect the church. We worship one God in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are of one substance, power, and eternity. We also glory in the different roles Scripture highlights for us. We focus our attention on the role of God the Holy Spirit but as we do so we call attention to the work of Father and Son. Grow in your knowledge of the Spirit’s work and walk in obedience to the Spirit’s leading. 1) The Holy Spirit’s work in the OT Scriptures 2) The Holy Spirit’s work in the book of Acts 3) The Holy Spirit’s continued work in the life of believers and the church
