In Matthew 5:21-26, Jesus extends the application of the sixth commandment -- you shall not kill -- to much more than physically taking human life. In this portion of the Sermon on the Mount, He says that even speaking to others in uncontrolled anger is a form of murder. Christ moves from the external to the internal -- to matters of the hearts -- in declaring this amazing truth. Uncontrolled anger or hateful speech is worthy of severe judgement, and it can cause fractured relationships in all dimensions of life. In fact, Jesus states that if you are in the process of worship and recognize that you are not reconciled with your brother, you are to make reconciliation the priority at the time, not your act of worship. We are to settle personal differences quickly.
