As serious as it was for Israel to rebel against Moses who was a servant of God from among them, the warning to the Hebrew believers called their attention to the even more serious situation many of them were considering. There is given a warning of the consequences and dangers of not being faithful to God. Genuine believers, can and must, hold fast to the Son who died as the ultimate and final sacrifice for their sins, and ours. Included in the reminder is the significance of today and the costly foolishness of assuming tomorrow. Rather than turning back or looking for a softening compromise, tests and trials are opportunities to trust God.
