Psalm 2 was a great comfort and encouragement to pray for the Apostolic Church.
The religious and civil authorities sought to silence the proclamation of the Good News, but in the face of deadly threats, the Church resorted to prayer. They quoted from Psalm 2, and they applied its message to their circumstances.
The burden of their prayer was not to escape suffering and persecution; it was that God would pour out his Holy Spirit on them that the gospel would be confirmed and that they might boldly preach that good news and not fear to disobey human authority.
