Sometimes working out the kinks in problematic relationships takes precision and diligence. Everything gets ratcheted up a notch or two when those relationships involve you and other Christians. Making it more difficult is when the problems exist between church leaders and those who are called to follow. We cannot afford to think that this is a new phenomenon for believers - the first century church had to handle messes like this regularly. The Apostle Paul finds himself again in the crosshairs of misunderstanding and mistreatment. What can we learn from him as he deftly handled accusation, slander, misrepresentation and lovelessness from a group of believers in Corinth?
This message focuses on the sometimes fragile relationships between churches and their leaders. Paul had more than proven himself as God's man in his ministry to the Corinthians. Yet, when he made a change in his intended travel commitments to visit the church at Corinth, his detractors seized the moment and pounced. Reluctantly, Paul again has to defend himself and what he writes is incredibly helpful for you and those with whom you disagree. In the end we must ask the question: how will I commit to the call to glorify God in this problematic relationship? The answer may be excruciating but it is clearly accessible.
