Best friends are one of God's precious gifts to us. Besides their encouragement they are there for us when we need them and offended when we don't ask for their help when we are in need. While God the Holy Spirit is not our chum – as the British would put it – He very much is "there for us". In fact so much so, that He lives within us. When we are born again by the power of the Spirit, the Spirit doesn't just leave after renewing our hearts but instead stays as a gift from God. The Holy Spirit Himself is present with us moment by moment. This is of great encouragement because we aren't living the Christian life alone or even just in community with other Christians. Instead the Holy Spirit is personally there to help us as we seek to use our bodies rightly in fighting all manner of sin and living God-glorifying missionary lives.
