Government is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Those words were spoken by George Washington. Today though, we've lost sight of the real significance of those words. The founders of this country were imbued with a Biblical concept of Government because there thundered forth from the pulpits of New England and indeed from all of the States the great teachings of the word of God concerning government. Today however, the pulpits have been mostly silenced about these things and consequently whole generations have grown up without the foggiest idea of what God says about the government even, indeed, with the arrogant assumption that God has said nothing about government, we've forgotten that it was Rome that crucified the Savior, Jesus Christ. We've forgotten that it has been the government which has been the principle antagonist against God and his church. And yet, we seem to be rushing to give the federal government more power and control over our lives.
Great Sermon! This sermon revived my hope in America the Beautiful, "A city set upon a hill," like the old city of Jerusalem. We were once a center and origin of truth, justice, and mercy. O Lord, help your people regain and maintain that status in this dark world for Your Name's sake and glory. Amen.
