The object in knowing God, we are told here, is to trust in Him as the only true and living God, because in trusting in Him we will find that He is our help and our shield in all the various situations of our lives. The Gentiles of that day, who did not know God like to trust in their false gods whom they could see; idols of silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, eyes, ears noses hands, feet, but can do nothing with them. They are not true and they are not living. But it is to God’s name and to His being that we are to give glory. The Gentiles only say, “So where is their God?”, because they cannot see Him and perhaps they do not see the evidence of His working in our lives. By the grace of God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, we should attempt to show them and tell them more about God and the works that He does in the creation and in saving grace in salvation of people through the gospel.
