I recently read the following post from Monergism Books 'How truly difficult to find a local church which has the right admixture of imperatives (what you should do) and indicatives (what God has done for you in Christ). Either for fear of antinomianism the pastor will preach law almost exclusively, or for fear of legalism the pastor will avoid commands and motivate sanctification with gospel only. In my experience, The latter tends to be a problem in some PCA churches, while the former in Reformed Baptist churches. What about you?'
I have recently noticed elements of this debate showing up in some of the posts by others that our follow on social media sites. Additionally, the subjects has recently popped up in some books I have reviewed. I understand that this was a topic of discussion between Kevin DeYoung and Tullian Tchividjian. And most recently, I discovered that this has been discussed on Reformation 21.
With all that in mind, I think it is time to have a discussion about this issues on the Knowing The Truth radio program.
To help me do that, I have invited Dr. William B. 'Bill' Evans to be my guest on the program today. He has bloged about this issue on Reformation 21.
Dr. Evans currently serves as the Younts Prof. of Bible and Religion and chair of the Dept. of Bible, Religion, and Philosophy at Erskine College
