Suicide is the 10th leading killer in America. And this past week saw the suicide of one of our celebrities, Robin Williams. In the days that followed people said suicide is stupid, cowardly, selfish, and even prideful. That all the person is interested in is themselves. That by committing suicide they are not thinking about their family, friends, or in this case their fans. But at the time suicide is to that person the best if not only answer. The pain they feel whether physical, mental, or spiritual is real and seemingly beyond any hope of control. So if suicide is not the answer than what is the question. Because if that answer is wrong than the question is what needs to be looked at in order to get help. It is not a matter of 2+2=3 is the wrong answer. They have an answer but they have got the wrong question in mind. The Bible has surprisingly little to say about suicide. The reason being that the writers understood life to be a gift from God and that suicide was self murder. The moment is recorded solely to advance the narrative and to teach us not to give an opinion, condemnation, or applause. So we would like to look at these suicides briefly and see what the question was and is.
