It is critical to understand and have explained to us the Law of the 10 commandments. We ought not feel that it is not necessary to read through the 10 commandments or have them recited. It is good to keep them in focus in our life. The Law does not have to do with our condemnation, as we have been saved by Grace. It has to do rather with us living a proper Christian life, out of thankfulness for our free salvation. We are called to be faithful. We find this properly summarized for us in the 10 commandments. We view them from the perspective of freedom and liberty, not bondage of the Law. The first commandment, then, is the greatest and fundamental. If you can't keep the first, you cannot keep any. There is only one God! Let us see how this commandment is so fundamental to the proper keeping of the full Law, as we strive to live closer to the Lord each day.
