At the close of this chapter Paul arrives at the main thought of 1 Corinthians 13. Chapter 12 discussed the abuses that were happening in the church. Paul describes several virtues at the close of chapter 12, but emphasizes that love is the most important and powerful of these virtues. What is the reasoning for this? Love is the greatest because different from Hope and Faith, Love will abide from this life into the next. Hope and Faith are required on this side of the grave only as they help to focus our life on God. Love endures past the grave as God's love is present with us now and will continue with us into eternity. For this reason, Love is the greatest of all virtues. What a wonderful concept!!
