In his day, Jonathan Edwards got fired for his view of the qualifications for persons being able to partake of the Lord's table - I wonder what he would have thought of paedo-communicants? In our day he would not be tolerated for his view of evangelism as detailed in his sermon "Pressing Into the Kingdom."
This is due to our real denial of the doctrine of total inability, though we profess to believe it.
Though most of us would agree with his taking a stand against the halfway covenant, we would pronounce people as converted in a fraction of the time Jonathan Edwards would have. In fact many "reformed" theologs have no patience for Edwards view of children and conversion.
