On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was voted upon by the Second Continental Congress. Four days later on July 8, the Declaration of Independence was read, and the Liberty Bell tolled loud and clear. As its sound went out, it was a sweet message symbolized by the words that were embossed around the top of it. It was a reference from Leviticus 25:10 stating, “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” This is a beautiful reminder of the influence of Judeo-Christian values during the birth of this nation. The people had travelled across land and sea in order to establish a place where man could have a place to worship God according to the dictates of their conscience. The desire for freedom is nothing new.
