This is Peter's final letter written before his execution. Peter warns that false teachers and prophets will arise in the churches drawing many from Christ. The tragedy of these false teachers that they will be effective. Judgment and destruction await these false teachers. No one is above judgment, even the angels were judged. The righteous shall be spared even though they may be few.
Peter notes the two main characteristics of false teachers; they despise authority and follow fleshly passions and desires. We are not to be deluded into thinking these false teachers are not so bad, but they're animals. They not only deny what is in the Bible, but even deny the authority of human government. They are even brazen enough not to tremble when reviling angelic majesties. Why must respect be shown to the devil and the demons? One, is for the position that Satan originally had. Two, Lucifer is the ruler of this world.
We are to have respect for the devil but not fear him because it is Christ, our Lord who ultimately rules over all.
