We are now the people who stand between the appearing-s of the Shekinah glory of God. In the Old Testament that glorious expression of God's power rumbled over Mt. Sinai. The people were filled with fear. When it came upon the tabernacle and the temple and those ministering within them had to stop their ministrations because of the intense terror of that moment. In the New Testament it shined out over the Shepherds in Bethlehem when the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and you will recall that they were sore (very much) afraid. It will again unfurl over the earth when our King returns in glorious power to judge. Now we live before that time. But what an amazing thing. These disciples saw the glory that attends to God's Holy justice. They saw it as it formed around the one who had died for their sins. His hands had been pierced for them... the wounds still visible were there upon Him. He lifted His hands, not in judgment but in blessing, my guess is... He smiled. And He blessed them it says. While He was still blessing them... as the words of blessing were coming out of His lips, He was taken up in this glorious, wonderful, terror inducing cloud. But there were no screams, no calls for mercy, no hiding in the rocks from judgment... for these there present there was JOY, HAPPINESS, REJOICING, PRAISES... What a transition... at the Mt. Sinai they cried out for Moses to go and let God talk with Him lest they hear God's voice and die but... Here they are filled with inexpressible joy! WHY?
