As we study the life of Cain, it is clear that he was a child of the devil as I john 3 says he was of the evil one. From Genesis 4, I will point out 5 characteristics of a child of the devil. Seek to understand them so you can rightly evaluate yourself to know what family you belong to.
Believers need to know these characteristics so they are careful not to do them. 1) has no heart for God - v.3-5 2) ignores God's word/warnings - v.6-7 3) is ruled by sin - v.8 4) fails to repent of sin - v.9-15 5) is separated from the presence of God - v.16 As I close, I must share one more truth about children of the devil. A child of the devil can be saved!
Jesus Christ, the very Son of God, came to earth to destroy the works of the devil and rescue fallen sinners from God's just wrath. He lived a perfect life as a man, but then willingly died on the cross in the place of sinners – bearing the sin and the punishment for all who would turn from their sins and trust in Him as their Lord and Savior. Three days later God raised Him from the dead proving His victory over sin and death.
Everyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus' life and death on the cross as payment for their sins is forgiven and given eternal life. God adopts the believing sinner into His family. The believing sinner is no longer a child of the devil, but now a child of the living God, through Jesus Christ.
