Paul had earlier asked a rhetorical question regarding the source of such a marvelously powerful transforming salvation, “who is adequate for these things?” (2:16). Now he discloses the source of his confidence: God in Christ.
He had just said prior to that, “God…always leads us in His triumph in Christ” (2:14). And, that as a believer, you “…are a letter of Christ,…written…with the Spirit of the living God,…on tablets of human hearts” (3:3). It is the Holy Spirit who “gives life” (3:6).
This is an internal, supernatural work of God, accomplished by the transforming power of His Spirit who uses His Word to change ordinary spiritually dead, blind people into radically transformed people alive and living in Christ!
So my question for us this morning is: Has the church lost it's confidence in our sufficiency in Christ?
When we press ourselves to the Scriptures to give every thought and every event in our lives a biblical interpretation, the Bible becomes operational in our lives as it shapes our hearts.
The Word is alive. It speaks into the vicissitudes, the pots and pans of daily living.
The Bible imparts life. It gives hope; restores joy; provides answers for the things that are confusing and confounding to me. Why would I turn anywhere else when I have a problem?
The question is better stated, ‘Why would I turn to anyone else?' b/c when I turn to the Bible for help, hope and answers I am turning to God. Why would I turn to anyone else?
"The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it? "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind,..." (Jer. 17:9-10a). The transformation of heart belongs to God alone.
