Thesis: There are things we know, there are other things we believe. The Gospel in our head needs to govern the attitudes and drive our heart.
A. Why do we struggle in connection the head and heart?
> We know theology but the truth is not connected to the heart
> Consider the truths of Matthew 15:7-20 "You Hypocrites..."
B. Why does God not take away the problem and remove this sinful part of me or things that cause me problems?
> God is letting you know you have a heart problem
> The heart is not plugged into our Gospel head knowledge
C. One main issues is "Academic Idolatry"
> We should be lovers of God not theology
> We have a head filled with head knowledge but we ignore the heart
D. Be forgiving as is Paul's point in Ephesians 4:31-32
> Husbands and wives forgive and love because of the Gospel
> God demonstrates His own love towards us... Christ died for us..." Romans 5:8-10
> The worship of Christian Theology is Idolatry
E. One extreme is "it's all about what we do (our actions)"
> Self-salvation through good works apply Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord..."
> Remember Progressive Sanctification is both Active and Passive
F. The other extreme is "My mind is driven by my heart in an emotional way"
> Knowing with heart is not to being led with emotions
> We need to learn in our heart - the Gospel
CONCLUSION: Pray to God, ask Him to search your heart, test your thoughts, guide you into understanding that what Jesus has done for you is very real and personal Psalm 139:23-24
