Standing Firm in God's Grace
In the midst of suffering, we must stand firm in God's grace!
We must be vigilant(8) Be sober (self-controlled) (8a) Be watchful (on the alert) (8b) Why? He prowls about like a roaring lion (8c) He seeks someone to devour (8c)
We must resist the devil (9a) How? Being firm in our faith (9b) Realizing that our suffering is not unique (9c)
We must see that God sovereignly strengthens His Church. (10-11) He takes the Church thru a short period of suffering (10a) He has called us to His eternal glory in Christ (10b) He will restore, confirm, strengthen, & establish us (10c) He will have the dominion forever and ever (11)
Conclusion to the Letter (12-14) Purpose of the letter: To exhort and attest this grace-you all stand firm in it! (12b) People with Peter at the writing of the letter (13) "Through" Silvanus (Silas)-amanuensis and carrier? Believers in "Babylon"-chosen just like you!
