The newly converted Gentiles were speaking in tongues and exalting God just like the Jews had who had believed the Gospel. Peter was convinced of the Gentiles salvation with no differences to be recognized. They had heard and believed the Gospel and the Holy Spirit had come upon them just like the Jews. Having been saved they too were then publically baptized in water to identify with Christ and His early followers as members of the body of Christ.
Peter had to explain to the Jews that God had removed the dividing wall between the Jews and Gentiles. He related how it was that God had directly intervened and taken the initiative to carry the Gospel to Gentiles beginning with Cornelius and company.
