Jesus tells this parable about a father who had two sons. The younger son is openly rebellious and demands his inheritance while his father is still alive, essentially wishing he were dead. The older son appears to be good, but he also rebels against his father by refusing to join in on the celebration when his younger brother returns. In spite of the behavior of the two sons, the father shows his great love to them. In the same way, God shows his great love to us even when we sin against him.
