Reading our text we see. . . chains fell off, guards slept soundly, doors swung open, dark streets beckoned, bright angel vanished, slow Peter awakened. . .the apostle was free! Free, but a fugitive! Who would help him? Where could he go? Where was everyone? Which brings us to an almost unsung heroine of the New Testament - a mother in the early church of Jerusalem. Mary. This is the ONLY mention of THIS Mary in your Bible. And as we just read, Peter knows exactly whose home to go to when he awakens in prison, free, but now a fugitive. Mary's house! So this morning I want to redirect the spotlight in Acts 12 from the Apostle Peter to Mary, the mother of John Mark.
