As we look at Luke 24, we see that Jesus was at first unrecognized by the Disciples on the road to Emmaus.
As they walked on that dusty road they had hearts that were burdened, Jesus, the one that they followed had been condemned to death and crucified, they had hoped that He would redeem Israel, but now he was gone.
Their hopes and dreams were shattered as they felt the loss of the one that they loved.
Numbers of Jews had hoped that the Messiah would bring freedom from the Romans and that He would bring Prosperity and peace to Israel and a glorious Kingdom.
Some disciples of the Lord today walk away from Jesus because life has not turned out the way they wanted. They thought Jesus was going to give them a better life.
Jesus comes to His needy disciples and opens the Word to them and finally their eyes are opened to see Jesus in their midst.
