Great Sermon! Thank you for taking a stand against Arminianism. Most reformed pastors will not call it a false gospel, and thus are sliding further into it. Isn't the whole point of being reformed to avoid Arminianism? Why are we avoiding it? Because we simply don't prefer it, or because it's heretical? We have to quit thinking sentimentally, and think about the position the elders are in, and what is required of them as overseers of God's flock. It's better to be too careful and hurt a few feelings than to just let Arminians partake, as a lot of reformed churches do. Plus, denying the Lord's Supper to an Arminian who is regenerate will make him reexamine his doctrine or his life, as it should with any believer! An Arminian or Calvinist believer who is denied the supper will grieve and seek reconciliation with God for doctrinal or life error. If communion is just simply given to the Arminiam in order to avoid confrontation, he has no motivation to consider his beliefs or life, and will most likely continue in Arminianism. If denied, prayerfully he will go to the elders, ask why, and can then be ministered to. The real unloving thing is not denying someone the meal, but for elders to not confront! It's better to open the festering wound so it can be healed! Thanks again, so much.
