Despite the presence of the hostile crowd, a few loyal followers of our Lord boldly took up their positions beside His cross.
'Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene ... and the disciple ... whom He loved ...' (John 19:25&26).
